If you miss the Flight ✈ please catch the Train 🚂
Awareness is awesome. If I can be aware of all my thoughts and feelings at any moment, I can superbly choose my responses.
But many times my habits of mind kick in and I end up reacting.
To make matters worse, I later feel guilty about it.
We all mess up. We end up doing things, saying stuff that we didn't want to. We regret it.
But think of it, even if I have missed the flight, I can always take the slower train to reach the same destination.
I can always go back to the child later, after an hour or the next day or next week or next month or even a year and connect, acknowledge, clarify, listen, discuss, understand ...
Once I settle in my train, I have all the time to reflect!
Which is why I like guilt or regret !!!!!
Guilt or Regret invites me to to understand myself, to acknowledge the child, and to explore the many dimensions of any habits of mind.
It gives me time to look at other's intentions (if I missed seeing them at that time)
I prefer not berating myself over what I did. The flight has flown.
I can now chug along with my child. We can pause at all stations of importance, enjoy what each feeling was signaling, hobnob with our co-passengers and consider if we need to repack / upgrade our operating system.
